RATNA USHA

Swansea - 04 August
1970
(Oops - forgot to resize by the look of it! More than fills my screen but
will be OK for most of you with more modern computer screens!? Shows off her
reflection to good effect??)
RATNA USHA (5290595), India, 9237gt, built Pula 1961, ex Jala Ratna Usha-64, ex Ratna Usha-63, launched as Zrenjanin. 1980 SAMUDRA JYOTI (India), burnt 11-1982 and broken up.
.... that is her official history, and she was a new sighting for me in 1970 even though I already had her in my records as RATNA USHA from seeing her on a previous occasion but subsequently renamed. However I can tell you that when I first saw this vessel in Middlesbrough Dock on 19 May 1962 she quite definitely was already carrying the name JALA RATNA USHA. As you can see it was fully another year before Lloyd's Register recognised any change of name and I eventually simply had to record her as RATNA USHA despite actually seeing her under a different name!
