SMITH'S DOCKS TUGS

SMITH'S DOCKS NO. 3 (1911)

Dare I show this? Yes, I will! Indeed, I must!

As you can tell, one of my early shots! Taken at Tyne-Tees/Dents Wharves on 23 August 1962. My notebook confirms my recollection that she was in the lee of the KING JAJA, Nigerian National Lines.

At the time of her transfer to Swan Hunter in 1979 that company were by then operating the Furness shipyard in its final years, and had controlled that yard since 1968. They had operated Smith's Docks on the Tees even longer, since 1966.

My shots of the COB, from seemingly decent negatives, have unfortunately not scanned too well:

6.2.01: Therefore, I am pleased to first show this view by Mike taken 16/5/81.
Inside of her is TERN of 1929, originally a steam tug, at the time he thinks owned by Swan Hunter, previously of Thames Services (Marine) Ltd of Tilbury and originally STERN of Rotterdam.:

....and my black and white shots .....

COB on the Tyne (can I say that?) on 27 September 1984.

A significantly cut-down funnel!
